Keep your financial data in sync across all your Apple devices with iCloud.
What is iCloud Sync?¶
iCloud sync is ON by default if you have iCloud Drive enabled on your device.
Money In & Out automatically syncs your data across:
- iPhone
- iPad
- Mac
Changes on one device appear on all devices within seconds. No setup required - just sign in with the same Apple ID.

Everything syncs:
- All transactions
- Custom categories

How iCloud Sync Works¶
Automatic Sync¶
iCloud sync is enabled by default if:
- You're signed in with your Apple ID
- iCloud Drive is enabled on your device
- You have available iCloud storage
No additional setup needed - it just works!
Requirements¶
- iCloud account (Apple ID)
- iCloud Drive enabled
- Internet connection (for syncing)
- Sufficient iCloud storage
Turning Off iCloud Sync¶
If you want to keep data local only and NOT sync:
On iPhone/iPad¶
- Open Settings
- Tap [Your Name] at top (Apple Account, iCloud and more)
- Tap iCloud
- Tap Saved to iCloud (or Apps Using iCloud)
- Find Money In & Out
- Toggle OFF
- Choose "Keep on My iPhone/iPad" or "Delete from My iPhone/iPad"
On Mac¶
- Open System Settings
- Click [Your Name] (Apple Account)
- Click iCloud
- Click Saved to iCloud (or Apps Using iCloud)
- Find Money In & Out and toggle OFF
- Choose "Keep on My Mac" or "Delete from My Mac"
First Sync¶
When you first enable sync:
- App uploads existing data
- May take a few moments
- Watch for sync indicator
- Wait for completion
Using Multiple Devices¶
Initial Setup¶
On each device:
- Download Money In & Out
- Sign in with same Apple ID
- Enable iCloud sync
- Wait for data to sync
Adding Transactions¶
Add on any device:
- Transaction appears on all devices
- Usually within seconds
- Automatic and seamless
Editing Transactions¶
Edit on any device:
- Changes sync to all devices
- Most recent change wins
- Conflicts resolved automatically
Sync Status¶
Indicators¶
Look for sync status:
- Syncing - Cloud icon with arrows
- Synced - Checkmark or no indicator
- Error - Warning icon

To verify sync:
- Add transaction on one device
- Check other device
- Should appear within seconds
- Pull to refresh if needed
Conflict Resolution¶
What are Conflicts?¶
Conflicts occur when:
- Same transaction edited on two devices
- Both devices offline, then sync
- Rare but possible
How Conflicts are Resolved¶
Money In & Out uses "last write wins":
- Most recent change is kept
- Older change is discarded
- Automatic resolution
- No user action needed
Avoiding Conflicts¶
Best practices:
- Wait for sync before editing
- Avoid editing same transaction on multiple devices
- Ensure good internet connection

Sync Not Working¶
If data isn't syncing:
- Check iCloud Drive
- Ensure enabled in Settings

- Try pull to refresh
Sync Taking Too Long¶
If sync is slow:
- Check internet speed
- Large data sets take longer
- Be patient on first sync
- Subsequent syncs are faster

Your Data is Private¶
- Encrypted - End-to-end encryption
- Your iCloud - Stored in your account
- No third parties - Only you have access

What Apple Sees¶
Apple cannot see:
- Your transaction details
- Your amounts
- Your categories
- Your notes
Apple only sees:
- Encrypted data
- Storage usage
Disabling Sync¶
To stop syncing:
- Go to iCloud settings
- Disable Money In & Out
- Choose to keep or delete data
Disabling Sync
Disabling sync doesn't delete data from devices, but they won't sync anymore.
iCloud Storage¶
How Much Space?¶
Money In & Out uses minimal storage:
- Typical: Less than 1 MB
- Even with years of data
- Text data is very small
If Storage Full¶
If iCloud storage is full:
- Sync may stop working
- Free up space or upgrade
- Money In & Out needs very little

To check usage:

- Tap Manage Account Storage (or Manage Storage)
- Find Money In & Out
- See usage details
Backup & Restore¶
Automatic Backup¶
iCloud sync acts as backup:
- Data always in cloud

- Install Money In & Out
