General¶

Is this app right for me?¶

You'll love Money In & Out if you: - Want simple expense tracking without complexity - Value privacy and want data to stay on your devices - Like scanning receipts to auto-fill details - Use iPhone, iPad, or Mac (or all three) - Want a free app with no ads or subscriptions

Look elsewhere if you need: - Bank account connections - Budgeting and forecasting tools - Bill reminders and alerts - Investment tracking - Multi-user or family sharing

Is Money In & Out really free?¶

Yes, completely free. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads. Free forever.

Why is it free?¶

We built Money In & Out because we wanted a simple expense tracker for ourselves. We're sharing it with others who want the same thing.

Will you add a paid version?¶

No plans for that. The app will remain free.

What platforms does it support?¶

iPhone and iPad (iOS 26.0+)
Mac (macOS 26.0+)

Do I need an account?¶

No account required. Just download and use.

Privacy & Data¶

What data do you collect?¶

None. We don't collect any data about you or your transactions.

Where is my data stored?¶

On your device and optionally in your iCloud account (if you enable sync).

Can you see my transactions?¶

No. We have no access to your data. It's stored locally on your devices and in your private iCloud account.

Is my data encrypted?¶

Yes. iCloud data is encrypted end-to-end. Local data is protected by your device security.

Can I export my data?¶

Yes. Export to CSV format anytime from the app.

Features¶

Can I set budgets?¶

Not currently. Money In & Out focuses on tracking, not budgeting.

Are there recurring transactions?¶

Not yet. You need to add recurring transactions manually each time.

Can I attach receipts?¶

Yes! The receipt scanner automatically saves receipt images with transactions. You can also manually attach photos to any transaction.

Is there a web version?¶

No. Money In & Out is Apple platforms only.

Can I connect my bank?¶

No. Money In & Out doesn't connect to banks. Manual entry only.

Not directly. Each person needs their own copy. Family sharing of the app is supported through App Store.

Receipt Scanner¶

How does the receipt scanner work?¶

Snap a photo → AI extracts merchant, amount, date → Review and save. Takes 2-3 seconds, works offline.

Why is the app 1.02 GB?¶

We include a complete AI model (Qwen3 1.7B) inside the app for 100% privacy - your receipts never leave your device.

Is my receipt data private?¶

Yes. All processing happens on your device. No cloud AI services, no uploads, works offline.

How accurate is the scanner?¶

85-95% accurate. Always review auto-filled fields before saving - you can edit anything.

What if I don't want to use the scanner?¶

Manual entry is always available and takes ~5 seconds.

iCloud Sync¶

Is iCloud sync required?¶

No, it's optional. iCloud sync is ON by default if you have iCloud Drive enabled, but you can turn it off in Settings if you prefer to keep data local only. The app works fine either way.

Does sync cost money?¶

No. iCloud sync is free with your Apple ID. Money In & Out uses minimal storage and is automatically enabled if you have iCloud Drive turned on.

How fast is sync?¶

Usually within seconds. Depends on your internet connection.

What if I have sync issues?¶

Check that: - iCloud Drive is enabled - You're signed in with same Apple ID on all devices - You have internet connection - Money In & Out is enabled in iCloud settings

Can I sync with Android?¶

No. iCloud sync only works with Apple devices.

Usage¶

How do I add a transaction?¶

Two ways: 1. Scan Receipt: Tap +, choose "Scan Receipt", take photo, review auto-filled details, save 2. Manual Entry: Tap +, choose "Manual Entry", enter details, save

Can I edit transactions?¶

Yes. Tap any transaction to edit it.

Can I delete transactions?¶

Yes. Swipe left on a transaction and tap Delete.

How do I create categories?¶

Go to Categories section, tap Add Category, enter details, save.

Can I change category colors?¶

Yes, when creating or editing a category.

How do I see spending by category?¶

Go to the Analysis tab to see charts and breakdowns.

Technical¶

What iOS version do I need?¶

iOS 26.0+ for iPhone/iPad, macOS 26.0+ for Mac.

How much storage does it use?¶

Very little. Typically less than 10 MB even with years of data.

Does it work offline?¶

Yes. Add transactions offline, they'll sync when you're back online.

Can I use on multiple devices?¶

Yes. Enable iCloud sync to use on all your Apple devices.

What if I get a new device?¶

Install the app, sign in with your Apple ID, enable iCloud sync. Your data will download automatically.

Troubleshooting¶

App won't open¶

Try: - Restart your device - Check for iOS/macOS updates - Reinstall the app

Transactions not syncing¶

Check: - iCloud Drive is enabled - Same Apple ID on all devices - Internet connection - iCloud storage available

Data disappeared¶

Check: - Date range/period selection - Filters applied - iCloud sync status - Try pull to refresh

Can't add transaction¶

Ensure: - Amount is valid number - Category is selected - App is up to date

Data Management¶

How do I backup my data?¶

iCloud sync acts as automatic backup. You can also export to CSV for additional backup.

How do I restore data?¶

If using iCloud sync, just sign in on a new device. Otherwise, you'll need to import from a CSV export.

Can I import data?¶

Not currently. Manual entry only.

How do I delete all data?¶

Delete the app to remove local data. To remove iCloud data, disable sync and delete from iCloud settings.

Future Plans¶

Will you add [feature]?¶

We're focused on keeping the app simple. Major new features are unlikely, but we're open to feedback.

Will you support Android?¶

No plans for Android. Money In & Out is built specifically for Apple platforms.

Will you add subscriptions?¶

No. The app will remain free without subscriptions.
